Bio

Camille Laoang is a Brooklyn based artist whose work reveals a love of color, pattern and non sequitur juxtapositions. Born and raised in suburban Maryland by artist parents, she explored various art forms before choosing visual arts as a teenager.  She earned her BFA degree at Maryland Institute, College of Art in 1993, and subsequently moved to New York.

Having worked in oils, watercolor, ballpoint pens and most recently with reflective vinyl and acrylic, her subject matter reflects a life-long interest in what she calls “the unseen forces that underlie our reality.” These are the emotional, psychological and spiritual elements that shape and describe individuals and societies, which in turn create the conditions in the world. She has created various series focusing on different aspects of this over-arching theme, including two distinct, but related, mandala series, which focuses on the importance of being centered internally.

In 2015, she had a residency at Saltonstall Arts Colony in Ithaca, NY where she developed new mandala drawings, created a floor installation out of gravel and collaborated on a series of hand-made books with the other residents.

Ms. Laoang has exhibited her work in internationally in London and Santiago, around the US in Maryland, North Carolina, New Jersey, New Mexico, and locally in various New York art spaces including BRIC Arts, The Brooklyn Public Library, Micro Museum and Jadite Gallery. In 2020, she had a solo exhibit at Delaware Valley Arts Alliance in Narrowsburg, NY.
