Wirey Figures

This section shows work made from the end of my time in college in 1993, to 1995 when I was living in New York City. During this time, I was interested in the human form and how it could be abstracted and simplified with the use of line and shape. Inspirations came from the Bauhaus movement, especially the work of Oskar Schlemmer, and from Michael Moschen, a juggler and “object manipulator”.

Weary of the narrow scope of what art school had to offer, my interests branched out to costume design, juggling, dance and performance. For my senior thesis, I created and performed in what I called a “movement piece”, which brought together all of my interests. The paintings from this time reflect the discoveries I was making at the time.
