London
While living in London for eighteen months, I worked exclusively on paper with watercolor and ink and my style changed drastically. Here is the statement I wrote for these works:
In this series of watercolors, I commit to paper bizarre scenes consisting of humanoid characters, animals or hybrids, identifiable objects, fields of color and other entities. My visual representations often have symbolic value. I borrow from myriad sources including alchemy, dream symbolism, various religions, cultures, nature, myths and legends. Some of my imagery seems to come from the ether and remains unexplainable.
I am interested in the unseen forces that influence our behavior. An unseen force can be related to what is inside a person: emotions, beliefs, knowledge, secrets, memories among other things. Conversely, it can be related to our external world as we know it: weather, ethos, laws and rules, etc. It can also include other-worldly sources that are not fully acknowledged by all: beings from other dimensions, angels, demons, aliens, ghosts and other aspects of the multi-faceted universe. I am fascinated by the idea that other realities can permeate the reality in which we live and to which we are accustomed.
